Description
The CMY cube uses the primary colours Cyan, Magenta & Yellow (CMY) and lets you see the world in new colours.
The cube is a unique and interactive prism, and can keep children and adults engaged and entertained for hours.
The CMY cube is also a tool for understanding subtractive color theory, where combinations of the various color filters produce new colors.
How does it work?
Each side of the translucent acrylic cube is coated with color filter. Opposite sides have the colors cyan, magenta or yellow. When white light passes through the cube, certain wavelengths are absorbed by the color filters.
A color printer also uses this system, called subtractive color theory. Cyan is the complementary color to red. That is, cyan acts as a filter that absorbs red. The amount of cyan will determine how much red will appear on the color print.
Magenta is the complementary color to green , and yellow is the complementary color to blue . When you mix equal parts of yellow and magenta, you get red. Equal parts yellow and cyan give green, while cyan and magenta give blue.
The secondary colors red, green and blue (RGB) are primary colors in additive color mixing. Different mixing ratios of cyan, magenta and yellow give an infinity of color shades. You can observe this through the CMY cube
