Look!Oi!Cool! - an inspirational lecture for teachers
An entertaining lecture about how and why teachers should use small stunts and tricks in teaching. Can science become a "talking game"? Does it require a lot of energy and time in a busy teacher's day? Does it come at the expense of the other teaching?
Look!Oi!Cool! is about creating inspiring science subjects and giving students expectations. The aim is to help the individual teacher to create a science subject that the pupils look forward to and are excited about. The lecture offers a long series of simple, but very visual, demonstrations that can be used directly in teaching without special equipment of any kind. At least as important, however, is a discussion of why such demonstrations should be used in teaching.
Andreas himself has very little teaching experience compared to the course participants, so he does not get involved in the teaching. Each teacher knows it best himself. Andreas only pays attention to what the teacher is doing for 3 minutes a week. The demonstrations must be able to be done with easily accessible aids, without stealing much of the teacher's time.
See! Oh! Cult! was developed for the Natural Science Conference in autumn 2010, and was the session with the most registrants. Later courses have also given very good feedback. It shouldn't cost a lot of time or money to turn science into a "talking game".
